Welcome To Blairgowrie Folk!

Wellmeadow Gate in the centre of Blairgowrie and RattrayIf you come from Blairgowrie or the surrounding area of Perthshire or have another interest in the place and would like to have a blether with some other folk who do too, you should read the information in this web site. Essentially, it is the front end of some useful Internet based means of communicating with others from the area. Subscription to them is free, Blairgowrie is in the centre of Scotland after all!

Communications

We use Yahoo Groups, a leading Internet e-mail list service, to distribute e-mail messages. You simply type up your message and e-mail it to the service, which in turn sends it out to everyone on the Blairgowrie Folk list.

We also have our own forum on on this web site where Blairgowrie Folk subscribers can post messages on any topic under the Sun. When other subscribers log on to the forum, they can continue the conversation (or "thread") and or begin one of their own.

There is a regular meeting in the Chat room on this site at 10:00 PM Blairgowrie Time on Sundays.

Finally, we can provide you with a Blairgowrie Folk e-mail address so that you can be instantly identifiable when you choose to use it, e.g. john_smith@blairgowrie-folk.com.

Other Benefits

That is not all. There are a number of recipes too from Blair Folk members, all from Blairgowrie at one time, notably from Benon Leszkowski, a world class chef now back from Bermuda and from Willie Morrison who has been a baker all his life, first in the Coop in Blairgowrie and then in Canada. See a photie of his mouthwatering doughnuts above.

There is a growing photograph gallery, a sprinkling of nonsense and other interesting stuff. By the way, you can catch up with the latest photographs in the gallery by clicking on the button in the adjacent column.

Please feel free to explore the site and to familiarize yourself with the tools on offer.

Origins

Blairgowrie Folk was created on a web site provided by a local newspaper by a couple of expats from the town. The notion proved to be a runaway success but the need for a blether and the sheer volume and quality of the output soon overloaded the system. We were asked to move on!

Another way of making it work was needed. Now, what has to be said is committed to e-mail and distributed automatically to all those who subscribe to the service. You can see the original blethers that were on the newspaper site here too. They are compelling reading for anyone with a Blairgowrie connection.
